NPSP vs Nonprofit Cloud: What Actually Changes in 2026

Short answer: NPSP (the Nonprofit Success Pack) is a free managed package that sits on top of Sales Cloud and adds households, recurring donations and soft credits. Nonprofit Cloud, renamed Agentforce Nonprofit in December 2025, is built into the Salesforce platform itself, with its own data model for fundraising, programmes, case management and grantmaking. NPSP is still supported, but new features go to Nonprofit Cloud, and new nonprofits joining Power of Us now receive Nonprofit Cloud licences rather than NPSP. Moving between them is a rebuild in a new org, not an upgrade.

Why are there two Salesforce products for nonprofits?

NPSP came first. It was built as a package of custom objects and automation layered on Sales Cloud, so a donation is an Opportunity, a donor household is a special kind of Account, and gift allocations live in a custom object. It worked well for more than a decade, and thousands of charities still run on it.

In 2023 Salesforce launched Nonprofit Cloud as a separate product. Instead of adapting sales objects, it introduced purpose-built ones: a gift is a Gift Transaction, a pledge is a Gift Commitment, a person is a Person Account. On 2 December 2025 Salesforce renamed it Agentforce Nonprofit and added AI agents for prospect research and participant management. This guide uses "Nonprofit Cloud" because that is still the name most people search for.

How is the data model different?

This is the difference that drives every migration decision, because it changes how your records, reports and automations are built.

The practical effect: reports, flows, page layouts and integrations written for NPSP's objects do not carry across. A report on "Opportunities closed this year" has to be rebuilt as a report on Gift Transactions.

What can Nonprofit Cloud do that NPSP cannot?

  • Programme and case management in the same data model. Programs, Benefits, Program Enrollments and Benefit Disbursements are standard objects, not an add-on package. See Program Management in Nonprofit Cloud.
  • A dedicated gift processing pipeline. Gift Entry and Gift Batches stage gifts before anything is created, with a dry run that checks a whole batch first. See Gift Entry in Nonprofit Cloud.
  • Grantmaking for funders. Applications, reviews, awards and disbursements in one product. See Salesforce for Grantmaking.
  • The new AI features. Salesforce's nonprofit agents, such as Prospect Research and Participant Management, are built for Agentforce Nonprofit, not NPSP.

What does NPSP still do well?

Plenty. NPSP is mature, widely documented, and supported by a large ecosystem of apps built for its objects: payment processors, event tools, form builders and email platforms. If your org is stable, your team knows it, and your integrations depend on NPSP objects, there is no deadline forcing you to move. Salesforce has not announced an end-of-life date for NPSP.

The honest trade-off is direction of travel. NPSP will keep working, but it will not gain the features Nonprofit Cloud is getting.

How do licences and pricing compare?

From December 2025, new nonprofits approved for Power of Us receive 10 free Agentforce Nonprofit licences rather than NPSP licences. Existing NPSP customers keep running on their current licences, typically the legacy Enterprise edition.

EditionNonprofit list price per user per month
Nonprofit Cloud Core$70
Nonprofit Cloud Advanced$125
Nonprofit Cloud Max (includes Grantmaking)$285
Legacy Enterprise (NPSP and early Nonprofit Cloud orgs)$60, renewals only

Can you upgrade NPSP to Nonprofit Cloud in place?

No. There is no in-place upgrade path. Moving means provisioning a new Nonprofit Cloud org, configuring it, and migrating your data into the new objects. Treat it as a reimplementation with a data migration attached, and budget for it that way. Our guides to migration timeline and cost and object-by-object data mapping cover what that involves.

Which should you choose?

  • Starting from scratch: Nonprofit Cloud. It is what Power of Us now donates, and it is where the product is going.
  • Running NPSP happily: stay for now, but plan. Our decision guide sets out the signals that mean it is time.
  • Running programmes, case work or grantmaking on spreadsheets or bolt-ons: that is the strongest case for moving, because those capabilities are native in Nonprofit Cloud.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between NPSP and Nonprofit Cloud?

NPSP is a managed package that adds nonprofit objects on top of Sales Cloud, using Opportunities for gifts and Household Accounts for families. Nonprofit Cloud is built into the platform with purpose-built objects such as Gift Transactions, Gift Commitments and Person Accounts, plus native programme management and grantmaking.

Is NPSP being retired?

Salesforce has not announced an end-of-life date for NPSP, and existing orgs continue to be supported. New features, including Salesforce's nonprofit AI agents, are going to Nonprofit Cloud instead.

Is Nonprofit Cloud the same as Agentforce Nonprofit?

Yes. Salesforce renamed Nonprofit Cloud to Agentforce Nonprofit on 2 December 2025, when it announced AI agents for nonprofits. Many people and partners still call it Nonprofit Cloud.

Can new nonprofits still get NPSP for free?

Since December 2025, new nonprofits approved for Power of Us receive 10 free Agentforce Nonprofit licences rather than NPSP licences.

Can I upgrade from NPSP to Nonprofit Cloud?

Not in place. Nonprofit Cloud uses a different data model, so moving means building a new org and migrating your data into it.

Is Nonprofit Cloud more expensive than NPSP?

Licence for licence, slightly. Nonprofit Cloud Core lists at $70 per user per month against $60 for the legacy Enterprise edition typically used by NPSP orgs. The first 10 licences are free under Power of Us either way. The larger cost of moving is the rebuild, not the licences.
